Document donation
Terms and conditions
You own or come into possession of old (pre-1914) or valuable documents and would like to donate them to the library. Since their creation, the heritage collections of Montpellier's university libraries have benefited from numerous donations, which have greatly contributed to their development. If you would like to share your documents with the public, and would like them to be treated and preserved in complete safety, we can help you identify them and accept all donations that fit in with the main thrusts of our collections and can complement or enrich them. Donated documents can be of any kind: printed works, newspapers, manuscripts, archives, graphic documents, etc. They must be in sufficiently good condition to be preserved and made available to readers. The library is free to accept or refuse a donation, or to accept a donation subject to subsequent sorting. In practice, we accept donations that are consistent with and complement our heritage collections.
A list of proposed documents is desirable, and will make their acceptance easier. The libraries of Montpellier's universities give priority to original documents that they do not possess. For reasons of storage space, documents already in our possession can only be accepted in duplicate to replace a damaged or missing volume, or because the proposed copy presents interesting particularities. Transport arrangements are to be agreed between the donor and the library. Depending on the size of the donation, it may be accepted by the board of directors of the university concerned. Donations of more than 10 volumes will be subject to a transfer agreement. For all others, an acknowledgement of receipt will be issued, together with a letter of thanks. Donated documents are listed in the library catalog and may be made available to the public as soon as possible.
