TAKE PART IN A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT WITH THE BU DE L'UM!
As part of the "Adventice" exhibition by artist JR
at Carré Sainte-Anne from June 27 to December 7, 2025

To mark the reopening of Carré Sainte-Anne, a landmark of contemporary art in Montpellier, artist JR invites you to take part in a collective work of art. Known for his monumental ephemeral works, artist JR will explore the memory of places and souls through a monumental, living tree whose foliage, composed by visitors who choose to leave their imprints, will grow over the months.
Montpellier, cradle of France's first botanical garden and of humanist medicine for eight centuries, has forged its identity through a rich collection of plants, introduced through medieval scientific and commercial exchanges. Trees embody these invisible circulations, tracing a universal history in which nature, knowledge and human relations are intertwined.
To this end, the city of Montpellier has launched a call for participation , inviting Montpellier residents to take part in the creation of a collective work of art.
To leave your mark at Carré Sainte-Anne, nothing could be simpler: print, cut out and place the silhouette of your hand (according to the tutorial) so that it becomes a leaf on a symbolic tree that will grow over the course of the exhibition.
The UM's BUs are joining in this initiative and are making collection boxes available until May 30 in Montpellier's main BUs:
- BU Richter
- BU Sciences
- BU UPM
- BU Pharmacy
Other collection points are also available at the University (Art & Culture department offices), and in town (Hôtel de Ville, Hôtel de Métropole, Office de Tourisme, etc.).
