Initiated by the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the exhibition"Prototypes: From Experimentation to Innovation"presented at the Sciences Library is an adaptation proposed bythe University of Toulouse andthe University of Montpellier to highlight the work of research laboratories in Occitanie.

These instruments, which are indispensable for scientific discoveries, are a crucial source for understanding how research works. They tell the story behind the scenes in laboratories: their history raises awareness of the challenges, difficulties, and trial and error that take place in laboratories. While they sometimes leave the lab bench to enter the corporate world and undergo industrialization, they rarely end up on the shelves and in the display cases of museums or collectors, thus leaving a valuable legacy for future generations.

Fortunately, the PATrimoine Scientifique et TEChnique Contemporain (PATSTEC) network, which covers the whole of France, is working to collect, preserve, and document these objects, thereby passing on stories both big and small.

Admission is free and open to everyone.
