Initiated by the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the exhibition“Prototypes: From Experimentation to Innovation,”presented at the Sciences Library, is an adaptation developed bythe University of Toulouse andthe University of Montpellier to highlight the work of research laboratories in Occitanie.

These instruments, indispensable to scientific discovery, are a crucial source for understanding how research works. They offer a behind-the-scenes look at laboratories: their history brings to light not only the challenges but also the difficulties and trial-and-error processes that take place within them. While they sometimes leave the lab bench to enter the corporate world and embark on the path to industrialization, they more rarely find their way onto the shelves and display cases of museums or collectors, thus leaving a precious legacy for future generations.

Fortunately, the PATrimoine Scientifique et TEChnique Contemporain (PATSTEC) network, active throughout France, works to collect, preserve, and document these objects, thereby passing on stories both big and small.

Admission is free and open to everyone.
