Theme 2024:
The influence of AI on the evolution of science documentaries and images

the event :

Objective: to address all the issues involved in scientific documentaries and images designed to raise awareness among all audiences.

As part of the Sud de Sciences Festival, an afternoon of interactive exchanges is organized through round tables and screenings of film extracts, where scientists and professionals share their experiences and questions around the evolution of AI in documentary.

For whom?

Students, audiovisual professionals and the general public.

Afternoon program:

  • 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm: presentation of the afternoon and speakers
  • 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Sequence 1 / The use of AI in healthcare is undergoing a sudden, constant and very rapid evolution, not only in terms of improving knowledge, but also diagnosis, choice of treatment, surgical techniques and patient follow-up. Excerpts from documentaries on this subject, including "Artificial Intelligence: When Emotions Get Involved" (2021), show concrete examples of this revolution, and raise the question of how to make a documentary on an area of knowledge that is evolving extremely rapidly, without being in part immediately outdated. We could point out that other fields pose the same problem, such as the spectacular advance in knowledge in biology, thanks to the development of sensors and data banks.
  • 14h35-15h35: Sequence 2 / AI for documentaries and scientific mediation. The different types of AI that can help in the production of documentaries or scientific mediation tools (webdocs, Youtube channels, documentaries...). The techniques that can be used to create text, images and sound, as well as to improve the quality of the footage and files collected.
  • 3.35pm-3.50pm: convivial break / exhibition
  • 15h55-16h55: Sequence 3 / The future of AI in the field of information and communication. Do AIs risk endangering the classic notion of documentary, and more broadly the "photography-restitution" of reality?
  • 5pm-5:30pm: conclusion / exhibition

Key players :

  • Anne-Lise Carlo (Le Monde journalist)
