These job openings are intended for students enrolled at UM for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Who is the student job at the university library intended for?

A student employment contract allows you to balance your part-time job with your studies: you work on campus and can manage your time by prioritizing your studies. It’s up to you to choose the position that best fits your schedule!

To apply, you must:

  • be enrolled at the University of Montpellier for the 2026–2027 academic year
  • be available continuously from September 2026 through May or June 2027 (see offer details)

What's the point?

  • Greet and assist visitors
  • Ensure the lending and return of documents and materials
  • Help users access on-site services (public computers, copy machines, group study rooms, etc.)
  • Monitor the reading rooms
  • Put the documents away in the library
  • Help monitor library usage (counting visitors, conducting surveys on where users come from, assisting with statistical tracking)
  • Depending on the location and specific duties, assist with opening and closing the university library with the help of regular staff and security personnel
  • Occasionally contribute to documentary projects

What are the hiring criteria?

  • Teamwork skills
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Know how to implement procedures and rules
  • Be comfortable using computer and digital tools
  • Experience working with the public is a plus
  • When applications are equally qualified, social circumstances are taken into account

Training on the university libraries’ tools and services is provided after hiring, during the first few days of employment.

Compensation

A student contract is an hourly-wage contract.

All hours worked before 7:00 p.m. are paid at the minimum wage rate.

All hours worked between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. are paid at the minimum wage plus a 20% premium.

All hours worked after 10 p.m., on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and holidays are paid at the minimum wage plus a 50% premium.

Payment is made after the hours have been worked, based on a timesheet approved each month by the employer, which means that compensation is paid two months after the work is completed. Under this system, hours worked in September 2026 are paid at the end of November 2026, and pay continues through July or August 2027, depending on the period covered by the selected plan.

Type of contract

A public-sector contract with a probationary period based on the contract’s duration and without severance pay.

WEEKDAY DAY SHIFTS: 4 POSITIONS

Workload: 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Entry level : starting in the second year of college

▶ SUNDAYS AND EVENINGS: 12 POSITIONS

Workload: The schedule calls for a 3-week rotation of 3 teams of 4 people. Each team works 2.5 shifts per week in the evening from 6:45 PM to 10:30 PM (2 x 3 hours and 45 minutes one week, 3 x 3 hours and 45 minutes the following week) + 1 Sunday out of every 3 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM (8 hours with a 1-hour lunch break).
