Comic Books for Better Care

On June 13, 2025, as a joint initiative of the Montpellier School of Medicine and the Joint Documentation Service, the first “Comics for Better Care” event was held : Alice Baguet, Olivia Hagimont, and Matthieu Blanchin—three authors who have chronicled their experiences with illness in comic books—were invited to share their stories and their perspectives as patients with students and the general public.
This unique and innovative event highlighted the collaboration between the faculty’s teaching staff and the librarians at the University of Montpellier, with the aim of incorporating instruction on the challenges of the caregiver-patient relationship—including its human, ethical, and social dimensions—into medical training.
The booklet published for this event features a selection from the collection of “narrative medicine” comics that has been compiled and made available over the past several years in the medical university libraries of Nîmes and Montpellier, serving as educational resources for students, study materials for practitioners, and a tool for raising public awareness.
